or whichever sport gets your kids moving.....

Kids Beach & Sea Bath Progress

I've been working on the kids' bathroom to create a beach and sea theme. First... I am NOT an artist, so please be kind in evaluating what you see! But, overall I think it will turn out ok.

Decorating With Maps

I've seen a trend happening - everyone wants to travel! Or pretend to travel. Or show where they have traveled. Let's look at some creative ways to decorate with maps.....

Seeing the Light at Ikea

I must be the last person on earth to go into Ikea. It's like knowing Google is around but using a different search engine. I had seen the minimalist Poang chairs before and honestly don't care for them so I guessed all their furniture was like that. So wrong! Here are my picks that will someday soon be in my house....

I want new sofas and given the prices I will now consider these, but for those of you who have these sofas, how well do Ikea's slip covered sofas hold their shape?

Decorating For Different Aged Boys

This has to be the ultimate for a decorating dilemma!

How can you decorate a shared bedroom for two boys with a larger age gap? Possible? Yes! Even if they have different interests, which they likely will, there is always a way to combine or at least meld the two into a seamless theme.

I found this old decorating book as I was going through my grandmother's belongings. I haven't read it yet, but I'd like to see what the experts were advising back then.

Decorating For A Teen Boy?

Absolutely!
Decorating a bedroom for a teen-aged boy could be an oxymoron, but not in my book! Teen boy rooms will just be approached differently. When kids are young, we do the "super cute" thing, then we do the big boy or big girl tween rooms. Still cute, but a little more refined. I recently had a comment from a reader who needs ideas for a 15 year old boy whose hobbies include camping, hiking and water skiing.

DIY: A Valuable Skill Or A Curse?

The Do It Yourself craze is alive and well, and most likely here to stay. With HGTV and the original "Trading Spaces" on TLC fueling our inner creativity, the blogging world is ablaze with diy project ideas, Pottery Barn knock-offs and the frugal frenzy.

There is a never-ending desire to fulfill the  "what can I create from nothing?"  Or from this worn out, peeling paint, half rotten...thing?  Every week we take our latest garage sale purchase, grab the camera and go nuts to our hearts desire!  Sand, click...paint, click....glue, click.... and then post our creations on several weekly diy show-off blog parties. Definitely lots of skill!

New Windows In My World!

(siding will be yellow or gray)

Well, we finally have new windows! We did half this year and will do the rest next year. No, not so glamorous like new lighting or furniture. But I can't tell you the satisfaction of going from old dark, sticky, drafty wood windows to new whites!

Craigslist Considerations

I've noticed several of my designing blogger buddies frequent their local thrift
stores, antique stores and flea markets. With my kiddos, I just don't have the
freedom to wander aimlessly as much as I'd like to. So, I admit, I'm a craigslist
junkie. My hub is too!  I look at home things and he looks at tractors.

Tonight, I'm thinking about casual seating for the family room and anything for
my new workspace.

I found this!

It would be great in my office or even the living room. New fabric would be fairly easy with the almost straight lines.

And then I saw this - could go in my office -

Tile Flooring: Yay or Nay?

You're confused, right? How could I even fathom questioning the preference of tile? Well, I can. I'm very practical and realistic when purchasing products and occassionally, like now, tend to buck the popular trend. Hear me out...

Finding A New Sofa

As previously mentioned, I have changed my decorating palette colors from the jewel-toned dark green, red & gold to soothing-spa colors of aqua blue and lighter greens.  However, I was really stuck in our living room since our sofas are those exact colors I don't want anymore:

More Great Finds!

So a few days ago, I had another shopping excursion for various decor pieces.
My last Mom's Day Out was a fun, nutty and exhilarating day! This shopping
day was as productive, but a bit less nutty. Though I did still have great old
rock & roll playing in the car!

I hit my usuals: Target, TJMaxx and Bed, Bath & Beyond. I picked up
new towels at BB&B to go with our Master Bath Makeover.

What Is Your Color Palette?

(another new find from TJX)

As  I walk around our "new-to us" house, I see bits and pieces of the old colors used at our previous house. Four years ago when we moved into that house, it screamed to keep the green, red and gold going and I did.
