I want new sofas and given the prices I will now consider these, but for those of you who have these sofas, how well do Ikea's slip covered sofas hold their shape?
The ones at the store looked quite messy, like the foam wasn't firm enough. But I do like that I could change the fabric in a few years if I want to. Durability is an issue though with kids & dog!

So maybe a leather is in order.....

And then I saw the lights.....
This picture doesn't do it justice! I LOVE this lamp!
And this sofa table....
Solid wood! And cheap!
Why is Ikea so inexpensive?
Yes, I'm a convert! I really like Ikea.
I'm ready to sell all my - still wonderful - living room set and buy these!
Though I still need to know about the durability of the fabric sofas....
please comment!

I first stepped into Ikea 3 years ago when I was moving off-campus and needed a bed (we picked one of the day beds - a dream my mom had had for me my whole life apparently). As much as I hate shopping and as eager as I was to leave, I loved being there! I'm a bit addicted to organizing supplies so seeing all the boxes and such was awesome! I'm sure that when I finally move out of my parents' place, Ikea will be one store that we look at for furniture and decor :)
I wish we had an IKEA store here too, it sounds like a home owners haven! :D
Thanks for dropping by my blog.. :D
Hi came to follow you, but no GFC?
What Your Child Eats...
Hey!
Following you back from VB hop ;)
We were there (again) today getting a bathroom vanity. The leather ones wear and wear. I've got an 18 month old, 89 year old father-in-law, husband, cat and the house that everyone seems to end-up at and they still look new.
Glad that I found your blogg at Homemaker on a dime.
Would love a follow back.
That IKEA flower chandelier is so cute...don't know about the sofas...don't they seem like too good to be true?
I. LOVE. IKEA. They are a great company in terms of green practices too. I was going to get an ikea couch until I found HomeReserve.com and got couches with storage but I'm still looking at one for my basement. Thanks for linking up

I love Ikea for storage items, kitchen supplies, basic white dishes, etc...That said, I don't think I'd invest in any high ticket furniture pieces there. The quality seems a bit lacking. It's hard to resist a sofa for $499 but in the end I think we get what we pay for and it makes sense to splurge on items that we plan to keep for 10 years plus.
We bought the sofa in your picture and 2 chairs and got the white slip covers. We have 9 grandchildren and love that we can pull the covers off and wash them. (we bought 2 sets of covers, so there are always clean ones ready to go on)My daughter-in-law was sure that the kids couldn't come in when she saw them. I told her to bring them in. I've already washed some and it works out great. Hope this helped.
When you wash the slip covers, either dry them with low heat or line dry them... they will shrink in a hot dryer.
I bought the sofa table for my new flatscreen TV and found that my electronics (dvd, dish box, tuner) would not fit in the slots. I still love it though, its on the other side of the room holding bins with DVDs, family scrapbooks, and CDs.
WE LOVE IKEA!!!!!
This wonderful post totally contributed to the blog party's success! Thanks for linking up at Creative Bloggers' Party & Hop :)
we have the IKEA KIVIK sofa + chaise and so far, it is holding it's shape nicely! Ikea furniture has a pretty low profile compared to other furniture, so do some measuring and see if you will like it...even the ektorp collection is low. The covers do well, but I don't recommend washing a TON...it's better to scotch gaurd it and then spot clean.
AND I must say...you have excellent taste! I HAVE that sofa table! LURRRRVE it! It was easy peasy to assemble....30 min, tops. We got that lovely grey finish and it scratches REALLY easily (I do have 3 kids and one is a rough and tough boy that like to drive his cars on it, though...)
Anyway, I think you'll be really happy with the ektorp sofa. The stores are often out of stock in the covers, though...so make sure it is there before you pull a huge sofa from the shelves and onto a cart ;)
Thanks for the insight everyone! I do want the sofas to last 10yrs so they must be heavy duty. Still thinking... if they'll handle boys jumping on them!
I have 2 yes 2 IKEA couches and 2 of their chairs. I love them!!!
They hold their shape well. They are white and I wash the slip covers around every other month.
We have had them for around for four years. I looooove IKEA
